:: What is hyperopia?
It is also known as longsightedness or
far-sightedness, is the condition at which
close objects appear blurry.
A long sighted person has good distant vision but has trouble with close objects.

:: What problems may a person with hyperopia experience?
The signs and symptoms of hyperopia may vary greatly between individuals, and often occur when a person is involved in a lot of close work ( eg: computers, reading and studying), or intermittently after a lot of near work.

:: Who develops hyperopia?
Anyone can develop long sightedness at any age. Long sightedness can remain asymptomatic for years, causing problems only when a person is engaged in a considerable amount of near work or changes occupation to one which involves fine detail at near.
These people become alittle more more longsighted as they grow older.
:: What causes longsightedness?
No one is sure, however there is believed to be a hereditary component.
With hyperopia, when the eye is relaxed, light entering the eye focusing in behind the retina . This occurs because either the eye is too short or the focusing component of the eye are too weak.
In the normal eye when it is relaxed light enters the eye and focuses perfectly onto the back of the eye (the retina). With a longsighted eye, the light focuses beyond the retina and causes the image that forms on the retina to be blurred. This causes near vision to become blurred.
:: Can longsightedness be cured?
No. Because it is a developmental problem with a hereditary bais, there does not appear to be much likelihood of a cure.
:: What should If I think I am longsighted?

:: What options do I have if am longsighted?
The safest and easiest option for a shortsighted person is glasses. Contact lenses are also very popular with longsighted people, and recently laser eye surgery has becoming an attractive option.
